Experience
Thomas Newton Sigal selected the large format Alexa 65 along with the Arri DNA large format lenses to capture this foot tapping epic film.
Thomas created two distinctive looks with the DI colourist prior to shooting. These two looks combined with camera and lens aesthetics helped set apart the two eras within the film. Dan Carling closely monitored exposure and colour throughout the shoot ensuring the correct LUT was used according to the scene.
The Colour and exposure management workstation became very busy during the Live Aid performance days. Filmed on location at Bovingdon airfield there were up to 5 camera running at times. Often doing 25 minute takes of the concert. It was vital to always have a hardwired video signal from each camera to enable Thomas to set lighting cues throughout the long takes.
Data Management was overseen by Dan but managed by data wrangler Callum Weir. A Codex Vault XL and several Codex SSDs were required to keep up with the masses of data being generated by the multiple Alexa 65 cameras.
Company 3 received the rushes SSDs twice a day, at lunch and wrap to process dailies and LTO material.
