Experience
Principle photography took place in the newly built Cape Town film studios in South Africa for this 4 month shoot.

The A camera rig was 2x RED One cameras mounted horizontally and vertically in a Paradise FX 3D rig. A smaller lightweight rig was used for steadicam sequences consisting of 2 x SI2K cameras.

The lighting in the film is dark and the story line involves a drug called “Slo-mo”. For these ‘slo-mo sequences’ the Phantom camera was used, often running at 1000+fps. Due to the dark nature of the movie so much light was needed just to get an exposure, often making the sets very uncomfortable to work in.

An onset exposure and monitoring workstation was built for this shoot to enable constant monitoring of Left and Right eye camera feeds always checking for specular highlights that may effect the 3D. Some of the sets were very large so over 2km of BNC cable was made to enable there was always enough to cable cameras into DIT and on to Video asssist.

Constant camera sync checks were performed to ensure the sensors of each camera within the 3D rig were alligned.

Data management was handled on set by a Data wrangler from the DI facility, Post Republic.
