Experience
Florian Ballhaus called upon Digital Imaging Technician Dan Carling for Florian’s second UK feature film One Chance.

Florian likes to work with live colour correction on set, so a Livegrade colour and exposure management workstation was created for this shoot. The workstation had to be very portable and lightweight, as filming took place in Venice for 3 weeks before coming back to the UK to complete the shoot.

The Arri Alexa LogC signal was connected to the workstation to enable CDL colour grading to show the desired Look. Colour correct images then could be distributed to video village. The CDL look data was carefully logged for each setup and passed on to the data manager to apply to the rushes.

Dan Carling was also connected to the Codex onboard recorder via CAT5 Ethernet cable within the cable loom running to camera. This allowed for camera ‘Gate checks’ after a setup was complete to ensure the recorded ArriRaw data had been captured correctly. Once a ‘Good Chip’ had been called, production could move on, a step that took no more than 10 seconds but essential for data integrity.

Onset data management was performed by Technicolour at their mobile near set workstation.

A beautiful way to see Venice.
